Springfield NHS Has Not Moved

Hello Everyone, I just want to let everyone know that Springfield Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. HAS NOT MOVED FROM 111 Wilbraham Road. Our office has not closed nor has it moved. We used to share the building with Home City Housing who was located on the side of our building at 5 Northampton Ave. Home City Housing has moved to 261 Oak Grove Ave. and is a rental agency. Our office door has always been on Wilbraham Rd side.

Springfield NHS is a HomeOwnership Center and if you are interested in becoming a HomeOwner, want to learn how to buy a house, get your credit repaired, established or learn how to maintain it, for any reason, such as improving it to rent an apartment, buy a car at a good interest rate, etc. or buy a house, please stop in to see up or good to our website at to register.

We also help families with Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention who may be late with their mortgages or facing possible foreclose. Please give us a call.

Please give us a call at (413) 739-4737. Springfield NHS is also a nonproft Licensed Lender/Broker (NMLS #MC49872) and we can help you to pre-qualify for a mortgage with us. So stop by and see us. Thank you.

Verizon Foundation Shines Volunteer Spotlight on Lisa Harrison

When Lisa Harrison volunteered with nonprofit Springfield Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. (SpringfieldNHS) six years ago she had no idea she would be invited to sit on its board of directors and simultaneously be elected as president two years later.

The Springfield nonprofit transforms families and revitalizes communities through homeownership development, recycling of blighted properties and resident empowerment. This is done through credit counseling and home-ownership education for potential buyers; technical assistance to borrowers from loan intake to closing; flexible financing products that include property rehabilitation; technical assistance with property inspections and rehabilitation services; and post-purchase services that include foreclosure intervention.

Tenants Have New Rights After Foreclosure

The new Just Cause Eviction Law says:

  • If you are a bona fide tenant you can stay in your building while the bank owns it, unless the bank has just cause to evict you;
  • The bank can evict you only if you violate standard tenancy rules, or if the bank has a signed contract to sell the property to another buyer;
  • The bank cannot pressure you into leaving or do anything else to force you out;
  • The bank must notify you that you  have the right to a court hearing before eviction;
  • The bank must post and send you a notice telling you how to contact the bank and the person in charge of repairs and management of  your building.
Who is a “bona fide” tenant?
  • If you moved in before the foreclosure, and
  • If your landlord before foreclosure was not your husband, wife, child or parent,
you are probably a bona fide tenant and the Just Cause Eviction Law protects you – even if you do not have a lease.
This is only a summary of tenants’ rights after foreclosure under the Just Cause Eviction Law and other laws.  For complete information call Springfield NHS at (413) 739-4737.
